Fountain pen is an integral part of human life. It is the embodiment of education and culture. It has a vast glorious past which can prove that fountain pens are not a one day’s creation. It was born a way back to 10th century when kings and noble signors used to write with fountain pens.  Daniel Schwenter, a German inventor manufactured the magnificent fountain pen. His invented fountain pen was equipped with double quill. Out of them, one small size quill was the bladder of the ink. This quill was inserted inside the large quill.

Thereafter, experts tried to upgrade fountain pens through a number of experiments and modifications. In the year of 1870, Duncan McKinnon of New York and Alonzo T. Cross of Providence, RI provided people with stylographic fountain pens which were loaded with point nib instead of split nib. In January 1890, American William B. Purvis registered for the patent for the sole manufacturer of ink feeding fountain pens. Later in 1907, Waterman manufactured a new fountain pen with a retractable point that minimized the risk of the ink leakage. This fountain pen is considered to be one of the most qualitative and upgraded pens in the world.

So far as the structure of the pen is concerned, the tip of a fountain pen is termed as nib which lets ink oozing out. Fountain pens are equipped with nibs ranging from delicate to broadened width. In 1957, Platinum first manufactured fountain pens that were ink fed. During 1960 and 1970, Platinum took initiative to create leather pens called Amazonas. There is another unique brand, called Avalon, situated near Indianapolis, Indiana, is famous for the largest collection of fountain pens, roller balls, and ballpoints which can be purchased at very reasonable price. Lastly, old fashioned fountain pens were designed with an internal rubber pouch. It could be squeezed and it was flexible. The tipping material is sometimes termed iridium. All these fountain pens are cost effective.
