Believe it or not fountain pen has earned too much glamour in the world. Breaking the barriers of time and place, it has undergone modification and changes in the form and fashion of fountain pens. It is a long way it has undergone. Its journey started long back during 10th century when the society was replete with a number of social problems such as civil war and internal imbroglio.

Simultaneously there was the realm of monarchs whose imperialistic nature dominated the society.  At that time, fountain pen came into existence for noble persons. It is the fact that it has given driving force and aspiration to myriad laureates and luminaries to create marvelous write ups and articles. .  Daniel Schwenter, a German scientist presented people his created magnificent fountain pen. His invented fountain pen featured double quill. Out of two, one quill was the reservoir of the ink. This quill was again found inside the large quill. Thereafter, it underwent a number of experiments and modifications. In the year of 1870, Duncan Mackinnon of New York and Alonzo T. Cross of Providence, RI created stylographic fountain pens which featured point nib instead of split nib. In January 1890, American William B. Purvis was awarded the patent for the manufacturing of ink feeding fountain pens.

Later in 1907, Waterman invented a new fountain pen with a retractable point that prevented the ink leakage. This fountain pen is considered to be the most popular and upgraded pens in the world. So far as the structure of the pen is concerned, the tip of a fountain pen is a nib which lets ink flow out. Fountain pens having nibs ranging from delicate to broadened width. In 1957, Platinum first brought fountain pens that were fed on ink. During 1960 and 1970, Platinum also felt the urgency to make leather pens called Amazonas. Fountain pens won the hearts of people for its reliable service and unique design.
