You might wonder what the name Montblanc has got to do with fountain pens. There is a long association between the two names. Montblanc is one of the tallest peaks in the world and the highest in Europe. The name is associated with the school of fountain pens in the degree that there is something of the qualitative aspect and the association of height connected to both. Montblanc was the first company in the whole wide world to launch the fountain pen in the markets of Britain and showed the way to several other entrepreneurs who have made a significant contribution in the pen industry.

The name Montblanc was chosen to act as a brand name   as the   mountain was something of a spectacular happening in the world of geography and the highest point on    the European landmass. The company was started in the year 1906   under the brand name of Montblanc Sir Henry Tate Limited Edition. This was the first fountain pen ever sold in the markets and has a lot to owe to the strenuous efforts of a number of hardworking scientists. The discovery of the fountain pen was made as early as 1819 by a particular Frenchman whose name is the topic of much heated debating. The Richard barrel did not take very long to be designed and was just two years down the line. But the commercialization of the product took nearly a century to materialize.

There were several reasons for this accord and the main being the simple leisurely life that most people of the time enjoyed and the low amount of importance that was paid to the need of education. Moreover there was the question of courage in the process of entering the markets   with the claims of a product that has to be worked on to a certain degree. Montblancs were received well and in the 1909 version of the pen the height of the Mt Blanc was inscribed on the nib of the pens. There is also a notable effort spent in the direction of making the nibs look like the close design of a mountain peak. The company recently celebrated its 100th year of success. The pens have undergone a lot of changes in the years that have gone past.
