There is no denying the fact during 10th century fountain pens were used by people. At that point of time, it was old fashioned.  Fountain pens were made of bird feathers which were sharpened into perfect size  and later these quill pens were made for writing.  Quill fountain pens were designed with double quills. One smaller quill acted as the reservoir of ink which was inserted into the larger quill.  However, later fountain pens got a number of modifications and refinement.  Writers used to prefer fountain pens because at that time there was no other alternative to quill pen.  In 1884, Waterman invented upgraded version of fountain pens with the provision of self reservoir and pointed nib.  With time proceedings,  the stylographic pens with pointed stainless steel fountain pens earned much popularity.
