Fountain pen is an part and parcel of human life. It is the symbol of education and culture. It was born a way back to 10th century when kings and noble signors used to write with fountain pens. Daniel Schwenter, a German inventor found  the majestic fountain pen through this scientific research His invented fountain pen was equipped with double quill. Thereafter, researchers tried to upgrade fountain pens through a number of experiments and modifications. In the year of 1870, Duncan McKinnon of New York and Alonzo T. Cross of Providence, RI offered avid writers with stylographic fountain pens which were loaded with point nib instead of split nib. In January 1890, American William B. Purvis was given the patent for the sole manufacturer of ink feeding fountain pens. Later in 1907, Waterman manufactured a new fountain pen with a retractable point that minimized the risk of the ink leakage. This fountain pen is considered to be one of the most advanced and upgraded pens in the world.

So far as the structure of the pen is concerned, the tip of a fountain pen is called as nib which lets ink coming out . Fountain pens are equipped with nibs ranging from delicate to broadened width. In 1957, Platinum first manufactured fountain pens that were ink fed. During 1960 and 1970, Platinum took initiative to create leather pens called Amazonas. Lastly, old fashioned fountain pens were designed with an internal rubber pouch. It could be compressed and it was not rigid . The tipping material is sometimes termed iridium.
